Teachers and volunteers in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region, opened after-school reading clubs for primary pupils. Children sit together with storybooks in their own language and in English, reading aloud and retelling what they heard.
Four clubs are meeting at three schools, reaching about 240 pupils. The aim is regular practice, not a one-day event, so children keep reading after the school day ends.
Rahama Family Foundation supplied the books and supported teachers who lead the sessions.
